Faces behind death row (30 minutes) 

This award winning documentary tells the story of Karla Faye Tucker, the first woman in the USA for 150 years to be sentenced to death. In the early 1980’s, she murdered two people with an axe. In prison things start to change. Karla becomes a Christian and friends with Ron Carlson, brother of one of the victims. In this revealing documentary Karla tells her story and we also meet Ron and many others. This includes people who couldn’t wait for the moment Karla had to die. After spending 15 years in Prison Karla Faye Tucker was executed on February 13, 1998.

 

Time bomb in New York (25 minutes) (Chris Award)

Murder, corruption, alcohol and drugs have changed the borough of Brooklyn in New York into a jungle. In the midst of these explosions of violence and crime, Bill Wilson places his own time bomb: one of relief for more than ten thousand young people. As the pastor of ‘Metro Sunday School’ he wants to give hope to a generation without a future. An average of the thousand children and teenagers are reached every week. These children live in an area which has more than fifty murders and fifteen hundred robberies a year and is addicted to alcohol and drugs. For those children there is Sunday School, not only on Sundays but seven days a week. They now have hope for the future.

 

Race across Alaska (25 minutes)

The ‘Iditarod’ is a race right across Alaska and is a test of the stamina of both humans and dogs. One of the participants is Beverly Masek, a full blooded Indian. She was born and raised in Alaska and has been handling huskies and visiting schools in remote areas. She is a source of inspiration for those young people of her tribe who have lost their way and are searching for their identity. ‘Race across Alaska’ is an exciting documentary about potential of humans and animals.

 

Heart on fire (25 minutes)

The picture became world-famous: the little naked girl who runs and screams filled with fear after a napalm strike in Vietnam in 1972. In this documentary we get to know the person behind the picture: Phan Thi Kim Phuc. Suffering from serve third-degree burns for months and used by the communist Vietnamese authorities in their propaganda battle against the Americans she was able to put her life back on the rails. She went to Cuba to study pharmacology, met her future husband and together they requested political asylum in Canada, the country she now lives in. Recently, Kim was on the FrontPage again when she attended the laying a wreath for American victims of the Vietnam War, illustrating that forgiveness is a real part of her life as a Christian.

 

Everyone deserves love (26 minutes)

The Claypool family is a special family with a special woman at the head: 61-year-old Norma. She had adopted twelve badly physically handicapped children. Children, written off as ‘totally hopeless’ and left behind by their parents. Norma Claypool adopted them with their heart – she is blind. When she was two years old her eyes were removed in order to be able to treat a malignant brain tumour. She went to a school for the blind, graduated from university with credit and became a consultant for people working with handicapped children. This wasn’t enough and she started adopting children with extreme handicaps. To Norma every single one of them is a unique person who deserves love.

 

Wings over the world (17 x 50 minutes)

Since the draw of history man has yearned to fly. Yet it was the 20th century that was witness to the realisation of one of his oldest dreams. Through individuals struggles against oppression, turmoil, political restraint and personal hardship 20th century aviation, working for Douglas on the DC3. In the ensuring years Douglas became bankrupt and James S. McDonnell saved the company. It became one of the giants of world aviation, later to merge with US giant: Boeing.
